Boston Day One and Two

So we arrived in Boston Saturday afternoon after a long day of travel just in time to catch a quick lunch before heading off for our first gig at Mission Church down on Quincy Street (which is similar to Mission Waco, if you know what that is). We had a weary group of students traveling through subways, buses, and walking to our location, but as soon as we entered into the gates of the church, these students came to life. They did a great job of performing their set of singing, dancing, stomping, and drama. We had a great crowd of people who were really enjoying the program and even had one lady who was dancing in the crowd right along with all of our students. It was really moving. So our first experience was great with this beautiful little congregation.

This morning our group got up and headed out to Community of Faith Christian Fellowship which is a church plant out of Highland. Sean Richmond has done a great job with this incredible group of believers and it was an amazing encouragement for our students to lead out in worship for the church. We got there early to help set up and do sound checks before the service...we had no idea that CFCF was in the midst of a series promoting families and this specific Sunday was an emphasis on youth. His encouragement to the church (and us) was for the adults to invest in the lives of students and for the students to live "rebelution" type lives. In other words, live a life of rebellion against the norms of the world. It made a great impression on our students as we prepared to go out and express God's love through the MOTION program.

This afternoon was our first public presentation at Faneuil Hall which is in the Quincy Market. We were set up for our performance right outside the doors of the Market which houses all kinds of restaurants that make up a huge food court. These students did an awesome job in the program which held the attention of over 100 passers by, most of which once they stopped, stayed to take in the entire program. The program included Jumping in the House of God, Soldiers, and Shackles as well as The End of the Beginning and the Lifehouse dramas. As we looked around, many of the people in the crowd were wiping their eyes at the end of Lifehouse, which seems to be a common occurrence. It is one of the clearest presentation of how Jesus saves us from ourselves and the sin of the world and people connect with it. Many of the students got a chance to go out into the crowd and talk with the people who had been watching and the kids had some great stories.

Tonight we went out to Boston Harbor to go see all of the "Tall Ships." Apparently these huge sail boats come into the harbor every four years in the midst of a race...at least that is what we understood. There were a handful of large ships with huge sails resting in the harbor and we got to go and look on the boats which was a great experience for the students. On our way back to our housing, one of the students began a conversation with some guys sitting on a park bench in Boston Commons. So we decided to do an impromptu show of Jumping in the House of God which these guys loved. A couple of our students stayed back and spoke some more with these men and learned that they were believers and that they were in need of some encouragement and that God had just blessed them tremendously because these students took the time to stop and share with them.

It has been a great experience thus far...continue to pray for us tomorrow as we begin our Kidz In Motion programs. We'll post more later with pictures.

Blog back in action...sort of

We decided that the best way to keep parents and prayer partners aware of what is going on while we are on mission trips was to use the blog to send updates. That way the people who would like to know what is happening while we are away can stay informed without having to send individual emails. So if you are already linked to this blog for updates, that's great you will know what is happening on HSM's mission trips. If you do not want to get those updates, then you might want to go ahead and change the settings to remove the automated updates. Hope all of you are doing well and look forward to keeping you connected while we serve in the various parts of the world.

Blessings,

Highland Student Ministry
