An Evening of Radiance
Recently, the High School girls got together for a night of "girl stuff". There was finger foods, frilly decorations, fancy dresses, a jewelry exchange and other girly things. Emily Mills was the guest speaker and delivered an engaging and applicable message to the HSM girls.
Thanks to everyone who had a hand in planning the event. Thanks to the girls who came and brought friends. The evening was awesome! Look for "An Evening of Radiance 2007"!
Here are some pictures from the night! Enjoy.

Jr. High Band Practice Times
If you are in the Jr. High Band, you will be practicing with G again this week. However, you will not be practicing at the regular time.
This week will be different…..11:00-12:30----ok? In the Youth Room, as usual...just not the regular time. With G as usual, just not at the usual time. I think you get the idea.
Call if you have any questions!

Dodge Ball 5th Quarter

I just wanted to let you know that we are for sure going to be at the Woodway Family Center for the Dodgeball Tournament Friday night from 10:30pm-12:30am. Come ready to execute the 5 d’s of dodge ball: dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge. It’s gonna be a fun night even if you don’t want to play. We’d love to see you there. If you need directions, you are in luck cuz I got ‘em. Take Bosque all the way into Woodway. You will come to a stop sign at Estates Dr. Go straight thru the stop sign and then turn left into the parking lot. If you are coming from 84, you exit Estates Dr and go all the way down to Bosque. Take a left and then another left into the Family Center parking lot. It’s very easy to find and it will be loads of fun so come and hang with us.

HSM Coffee House
This Friday night we are going to transform the youth room into the ultimate hangout spot for you and your friends. We will have live music, tasty treats, hot and cold liquids to wash it all down, and who knows, we may even open up the stage for HSM Open Mic. If you have some musical inclinations and want to show them off to your crew we are giving you the stage. We will have sign ups tonight at Intersection and Friday at the door for anyone wanting to showcase their amazing talents. Only one rule...keep it clean...no ridin' dirty!! The festivities begin around 10pm and will go until 12am. Come join us for a night of good music, fun games (bring your favorite board game), great food and delicious refreshments. See you there!!
SKI TRIP
It is coming down to the wire for ski trip sign ups and we have plenty of spots. If you are in high school and like to ski we have the perfect trip for you. We are heading to Keystone, CO on March 9th with FBC Woodway to go play in the white drippings of the heavens...ok too poetic, we're going to play in the snow. If you are wanting to be a part of this trip, I need to know TONIGHT!! We may have to downsize the trip if we don't have enough people wanting to go. The cost is $430 which covers rentals, lodging, transportation, and lift tickets. We will be staying at Forest Neighborhood in Keystone which is a stone's throw away from the lifts...or maybe a short (5 min) shuttle ride. It doesn't get much better than this so if you're interested let me know tonight!

We will meet in the cave at 5:30pm to discuss details, but just to give you a little enticing taste we will be going to Keystone, CO March 9th-14th and staying in condos on the mountain. JH Hoop De Doo
How many of you love to eat pizza? How many like watching movies with your friends? What about bowling? and skating? How many of you don't like going to bed? Well if all of these things added together make up a list of things you enjoy doing and you just happen to be in the 7th or 8th grade then I've got a great idea for you...HOOP DE DOO!!! On Sept 29th the HSM combines with Columbus Ave and FBC Woodway for the biggest junior high party in the known world (or our little corner of it in Waco). It all kicks off at FBC Woodway at 10:30pm for a night of good, clean fun that won't let up until the sun comes up!! That's right, it's a junior high all nighter and it's gonna be da bomb!!! All you need is $30 cash and a pair of socks (cuz no one likes wearing skates or bowling shoes without socks...gross!) and you can join in the fun. Parents just drop 'em off at the door around 10:30pm and be back to collect 'em at 7am sharp and we'll take care of the rest!! Believe me you won't want to get left out of this one. See you there!!
If you need directions to FBC Woodway then click on this link http://www.fbcwoodway.org/maps/flashmap.html and the way will be opened to you.

Band ooops!!!
Hey guys,
With the transition to having two worship leaders, we had a little glitch regarding practice time for the JH Band. Sorry about that one. We will make sure that doesn't happen again or someone is going to lose a toe...and I don't mean the little one--that's right the big daddy!!! Anyway I hope that you guys will be there in the morning and we can have a great time together for JH Intersection and HS Breakout. Also all of you should have received the most recent edition of the HSM Home Page delivered right to your mailbox. If you are not receiving things by snail mail then you need to get us your info because it means we don't have it on record. See you guys tomorrow.

THE FLOP IS HERE!!!!

One other announcement for you...the Flop happens this Sunday, Sept 10th. Remember that the junior high will have JH Intersection in the youth room on Sunday morning (yes there will still be donuts, we're not that cruel) at 9am. High School will meet in the College House across 30th street from the church on the corner of 30th and Trice. We will start out together and then break up into smaller groups for the rest of the morning. We will finish by 10:20am so that you have plenty of time to get back over to the main church building for big church. I hope you are excited about what is going to happen this year in the HSM. See you soon.

Skit Guys this Wednesday

A quick head's up that The Skit Guys are coming this Wednesday to Intersection. You do not want to miss out on these guys because they are funny...not the kind of funny that you just sit back and smirk the whole time, but the gut busting, cackle out loud, on the verge of tears kind of funny!! The best thing about them is that they back up all of their humor with Scriptural truths that will bowl you over. Of course, they have been known to change gears on you and get serious with no warnings so you never know what to expect!! Make sure to be at Intersection Sept 6th to see these guys in action and bring a friend!! See you there.
Peace,
R

No Dinner Tonight
I know. I know. Last Wednesday night at Intersection I said that we might have "one last after-intersection dinner" this week. But alas, now that this week is here and schools are starting, classes are resuming, schedules are more packed and starting earlier, I think that it would be best if we did not go out tonight after Intersection. I think it would be best if we broke up. Besides, you all need your smart-brain-sleep...so go home, set out your back to school outfit and go to sleep!

Funky Cold Medina
So fresh and so clean clean. We've got some crazy mad new freshness coming at you. A couple of weeks ago we had some wickedy wack (not wack as in bad, wack as in good) talent try out for our band(s) for the fall. Here's what it looks like
Band #1: TAZ and Amber doing the fun talking stuff, Cody Overstreet laying down the phat beats on drums, Kinsey ravishing the gitfiddle, seth carrying the low love, kirsten giving us some depth on vox, and Allie Stryker bringing some 'sphere.
Band #2: Sugar leading the singing, Seth on bass, Drewbor "the Goober" Schumaker on the eclectic electric, Brice Arnold keeping the tempo, and our own little choir of singers: Grace Riehl, Kat Wynn, and Scott "I will do backflips onstage" Swingler.
Congrats to all who will be leading with us in the next schoolyear, and a great thanks to all who tried out. God has truly blessed our ministry

30 Hour Famine
As I type this blog, we are 4 hours and 45 minutes into our fast. We are perticipating in the 30 Hour Famine for the first time. World Vision puts on the event every year.
What is the 30 Hour Famine, you ask? It is a fund raiser where all of the money raised goes to feeding children in Africa. $1 feeds 1 child for 1 day. As students fast, they raise money by telling people about the 30 Hour Famine. It also gives all who participate in the fast, more of an idea about the mass-starvation that is taking place everyday in our world.
Basicially, we are learning about hunger, starvation and famine and raising funds to help combat the problem.
Our fast ends at 6:00pm on Thursday the 3rd. We are breaking it together at Jason's Deli. Meet there at 6:30.
We will start collecting all of the money that will be raised on Sunday the 6th.
For more info, see World Vision's website.
Thanks.

Intersection, Mission Trip and the Like
Hello to all! As the July Texas heat beats down on us there are a few bits of info I am compelled to pass along to you all. Read on!
Tonight, we will be focusing on the parable of the workers. After Intersection we will be eating dinner at Chick-fil-a by Wal Mart. Have your parents pick you up there.
Mission Trip info goes like this. We are leaving the church at 7 am on Friday. That means you need to be at the church before that to load trailers, pack equipment etc. I recommend aiming to be up here around 6:15 am. I know its early, but it is possible...you can do it. Call the church if you need additional info.
The rest of this blog is dedicated to scheduling. Sunday School will be meeting on July 16 at regular time. However, there will not be H20 on the 16th and there will not be D Groups on July 18th. Intersection on the 19th will be a little different than regular. It will be called "Hang Out Time with John". So, if you want to "hang out" with John, come on Wednesday. Regular schedule will resume the Mission Trip is over. More info on that later.
Until then. Until tonight. Until whatever.

Mission Trip and other bits of info
Hello my little chickens,
I just wanted to let you know as of Sunday night at 10pm there are exactly 5 spots for HS students and 3 for JH students on the mission trip. If you are still planning on signing up to go destroy some damaged churches in New Orleans then you need to get your money in quick!!!
Also we are getting ready for some fun at Youth Week at the end of the month. It is going to be our introduction of the incoming 7th graders to the HSM so we need to make sure that you older guys and gals are there. It's going to be a really fun week with paintball, bowling, lake day and a Texas Rangers/Houston Astros game. It will be the proverbial bomb of a week so make plans to be around then.
We will be starting up our summer version of h2o next weekend so be looking/listening for details at Intersection (which starts at 6 this week) on Wednesday night.
More info will be coming soon so keep checking in with us!!

So tonight begins two teams fight for the right to be crowned the 2006 NBA Champions. We want to take a poll of all of you guys and see who is going to win and in how many games. Can the Mavs stop Shaq and Flash? Do the Heat have anyone that can contain Dirk? You be the judge. We will post your comments as quickly as possible as you reply to this post. And not to sway your opinion or anything, but...GO MAVS!!!!!

Camp Craziness
So last week was pretty stinkin' amazing! Everyone who went to camp knows what I'm talking about...don't ya? Now that we're back in Loserville (thanks Neil) I thought I would post some thoughts about our stay at the lovely SFA campus.
2) One of the things that impressed me the most was the students that stepped up into the leadership roles...there ain't no steppin' back now!! You guys did a great job and I am anticipating an "A-mazing" (man was that A-nnoying) summer with you guys at the helm.
3) Finally I realized that we as a ministry need to kick it up a notch. I mean that from the top down. It's time to take on the phroneo_christou. Like Neil said, to whom much is given, much is required so we need to step out and get our hands dirty in the work the Father has put before us.
I am going to post some pictures later on, but for now words will have to do.
Peace out,
R
1) If you walked away from camp and didn't feel an urge to live for something more than our everyday mediocrity then you weren't listening. To quote an old song by Lifehouse:
How can I stand here with You and not be moved by You
Would You tell me how could it be any better than this?
Last week should have kicked your tail into gear and made you realize that being in the presence of the King is not something to take lightly...so are you moved? How can I stand here with You and not be moved by You
Would You tell me how could it be any better than this?

D-Groups

Hey guys, this Tuesday June 6th we will be having our first official D-group meetings from 7:30pm-around 9pm. We will have a guys group that will be studying Every Young Man's Battle by Stephen Arterburn.
The ladies will be studying Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge.I think you should be able to find these books at the Compass or Christian Book Store, but if you can't find them there you will definitely be able to get them online from amazon.com or christianbook.com. Both of the studies have journals that go along with them and you will need to buy those for this group.
The boys are going to meet at Seth Stanford's house out in China Spring and the girls will meet at Julie Williams house over by the church. For directions please email Ronny at the church ronny-higgins@highlandbc.org (or call my cell 254.315.3803) and I will get them to you. Hope to see you all there. Peace out.

And speaking of camp, we will be leaving for Nacogdoches and beautiful Stephen F. Austin on Monday (May 29). We will return on Friday (June 2). If you are going to camp, you are my friend... If you aren't going to camp...well...I guess we can still be friends...I guess...

Intersection
Ok. We wanted to give you a "heads up" about the next few Intersections. In the past we have not had Wednesday night meetings during finals. However, we found out that none of you used that time to study, so we WILL BE HAVING INTERSECTION!
You wont want to miss next Wednesday night (May 17). Mission Trip Sign Up begins that night!
So be here for the next Intersection! And don't give me any bull about studying for a test!

What Could Be More Fun?
Ahhh yes... Wednesday Night Youth Group games... Messy Camp Games... What could be more fun?!
Over the years I have witnessed many students eating gross foods or gross combinations of good foods. Some might even say I enticed or even tricked those students to eat those gross foods and gross combinations of good foods- and I must confess- I LOVED every minute of it!
One of my favorite memories is of a skinny 8th grade boy wearing a baby blue CS hat. This poor chap had the daunting task of sucking down a bowl full of pickle juice mixed with pistachio pudding and I will never, IN MY LIFE, forget the look on his face. A blank stare..."something is not right in my belly" he could have been thinking. Eyes glassy and no discernible expression. I know he was questioning himself... maybe his resolve, "can I slurp this down and lead my team to victory?" or maybe just wondering about his control over his gag-reflex. Poor Frazier. I think the blank, glassy look was actually expressing, "why would someone make me do this...?" as a bright green juice dribbled out of the corner of his mouth and down onto his chin.
I also remember, with fondness, David Grimes doubled over, behind a tree at Latham Springs, vomiting out the half-dozen bananas he had scarfed down 3 minutes before.
Other things that come to mind: caramel covered onions, fish sauce shakes, kiddy pools full of "stuff", a brown and black mixture being eaten out of diapers, and the list goes on and on and on...spitting pudding, pork 'n beans, sardines, squid, anything having to do with seafood, blenders screaming, students coughing and gagging, me gagging watching them gag, me laughing watching them gag, raw chickens, whole fish... My question comes up again... What could be more fun!?
Anyway, what "gross eating games" do you remember? What memories, smells, tastes and/or feelings are ingrained in your memory for all time? Better yet, what ideas do you have for "gross eating games" in the future? Let me know!

Ski Trip Review

So we have taken some time before posting about the ski trip, but it's better late than never. We had a great time up in the snow which led to some making a snow man and others rolling around in the snow trying to become snow men themselves. It was a really fun trip where no one got hurt, no one got lost, and no one hit a tree. All in all, you would have to call it a successful trip. This is the picture of the group after returning to the parking lot...tired, cold, and ready to be home.

Ski Trip News

Just wanted to give a quick update and link for those going skiing with us this next week. It seems like there has been a great snow base created for us so we should be enjoying some great powder for our trip. Anyone who would like to check out the slopes we will be shredding together can go to http://www.snowforecast.com/coloradofcst/copper.html and see what the conditions are going to be like while we are there. Looking forward to some fun in the snow with you guys. Can't wait for Monday to get here so we can get headed north for all the fun. Be looking in your email and your house mail boxes for info letters that we sent out yesterday. It has everything you need to know about the trip and maybe some stuff you didn't want to know.
Peace out,
Ronny

What Do You Watch?
All right everybody...I have a question for you...
Ronny and I are always eager to know what is going on in "Youth Culture". Are we trying to relive our teenage years? Nope. Are we trying to stay young? No comment... Or is it that we are still younger than our age implies? Deffinately!
Ok. Enough with the "babbling Matt"! Here's the question: What TV shows do you all watch during the week? What are your top three favorite shows? What shows would you call an addiction? What shows do you watch as a family? What shows do you tape or tevo if you are going to miss them? You get the idea...
Here are some of mine, in alphabetical order: American Idol (both weekly shows), LOST, Survivor and Without A Trace.
Your turn! Let us know! Get after it! Blog it!

What's Up This Week and Next...
Hey everybody! Update time!
This Wednesday night at Intersection (March 8th), we will be learning about Buddhism. It should be interesting.
Also, just a reminder that during Spring Break we WILL NOT have H2O on March 12th or 19th and we WILL NOT have Intersection on March 15th. However, we will have Sunday School on the 12th and the 19th.
Wow! Spring Break! Can you believe it!?

A little Q&A...
Over the past 4 weeks we have covered some interesting topics, but due to time constraints we were not able to answer questions that you guys may have had from week to week, so...we want to give you the opportunity to ask questions and then we will choose 3 or 4 that we will answer each week at Intersection. All you have to do is email Ronny or Matt before Tuesday of each week so that we can have some time to do a little research in order to answer your question. That obviously means if you have a question that you want answered, then you need to be at Intersection the following Wednesday to hear the answer. Hope you guys enjoyed last night with Josh and remember that he is interviewing today so be praying for him. Blessings on each of you that made your way to the blog.

Intersection: February 22

This week's topic will be Jehovah's Witnesses. We are going to take a look at their beliefs and practices and compare them to what the Bible says. Josh Crosby is going to be sharing with us this week so come and listen to what God has put on his heart. We start at 6:30 pm in the youth room!! We will also have another installment of the Hot Seat so be prepared...you could be next!!
And so it begins...
Welcome to the HSM blog!!! We decided that this would be a great way for us to keep you guys up to date with what is going on in our ministry so here it is. Make sure to check in with us each week so you know what's up and we'll try to make sure that we get good stuff posted for you. See you again soon!!
